Learning to Let Go
Letting Go
Let go of the place that holds,
Let go of the place that flinches,
Let go of the place that controls,
Let go of the place that fears
Just let the ground support me.
Listen, the wind is breathing in the trees.
Sensing the edge of soft and hard,
I follow the unseen path.
Walking in the dark night,
I practice faith,
Building confidence in the unknown.
Walking in the dark night,
I practice courage,
Accepting the vastness
Of what I cannot see.
From a poem by Stephanie Kaza
Unexpected Blessings
Give thanks
For unknown blessings
Already on their way.
Anonymous Native American prayer
As parents and caregivers of children labeled with special needs, letting go takes on new meaning. How can we let go when our child needs so much attention and assistance in order to survive? Can we take a step back during times of crisis or struggle and just breathe? Learning to let go of the pain, the worry, our fears for our child and “build confidence in the unknown” is our special path. It is through letting go and giving thanks that we allow the “unknown blessings” into our lives and into our children’s lives.
