Walking Lightly – Parenting Children with Special Needs A Spiritual Classroom

Healing the body as well as the soul
Learning to walk lightly while parenting children with special needs means trusting and letting go of judgments to allow God’s love to flow through us. It is a journey of forgiveness.

In these workshops you will explore:

---Spiritual Healing

  • How our thoughts create a story about our children which can be either negative or positive.
  • Accepting life as it is by seeing every event as neutral and as a way to deepen our love.
  • How our thoughts about past events and worrying about the future keep us from living in the present moment of joy.
  • Trusting God and letting go of judgments
  • Forgiveness as a spiritual practice
  • ---Appreciating Our Children's Gifts and Differences

  • Labeling, what it does to our children
  • How the world defines our children by what is wrong with them
  • Choosing the giftedness model over the disability model
  • Can you see your child through God's eyes - God does not make mistakes.
  • Children as spiritual beings
  • Choosing hope - reframing difficult and challenging situations
  • ---Seeing the World through Your Child’s Eyes

  • Treating every encounter with your child as a holy encounter
  • Give yourself the gift of a question. What is your child telling you?
  • What are the beliefs that keep you upset about your child?
  • Being a good listener?
  • ---Renewal

  • How can you make meditation and prayer part of your daily routine
  • How to be happy and at peace during times of stress
  • How to listen to the voice of the Holy Spirit within us
  • How our children’s story can become our story if we allow it to define who we are
  • What speaks to your soul?
